Butterfly -pea flower tea commonly known as Blue Tea is a caffeine-free herbal tea, or tisane, beverage made from a decoction or infusion of the flower petals or even whole flower of the Clitoria ternatea plant.
Butterfly pea flowers have a very subtle flavor, so it is common to add sweeteners (honey) and other flavorings like lemon or lemongrass.
Traditionally, the Butterfly Pea plant and tea made from it have been used to treat general pain, reduce inflammation, help with common eye issues like conjunctivitis, fight against certain types of cancers, induce brain health, and chronic fatigue as it “increases vitality.” It has antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
Add a splash of lemon and watch blue turn to purple.
To get the most out of the essential properties this tea offers, pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 tea bag, or 1-2 tsp loose tea in infuser, cover and steep for 5-15 minutes. Add raw honey or stevia for desired sweetness, enjoy!
